Need care at home, but not insured in the Netherlands?
Your mother is visiting and falls ill. You are here for work and your insurance is not sorted yet. Care at home is still possible. Private home care does not require a BSN or Dutch health insurance.
Our request form is in Dutch. Let us know if you would rather call or email in English.

Private care, even if you are only here for a while.
You make arrangements directly with an independent care provider from our network. You do not need a referral, an assessment or Dutch health insurance.
You pay yourself. The care provider sends the invoice straight to you. You may be able to submit it to your own insurer, such as your health insurance abroad or your travel insurance. Whether they reimburse anything depends on your policy, so check with your insurer first.
Who is it for?
- Family visiting who need care while they are here
- Tourists who need help during their stay
- Expats waiting for their insurance to be arranged
- People with only foreign or travel insurance
How paying works
- The rate is set in advance in your care agreement
- You pay the care provider directly
- You receive an invoice in your name
- Ask your insurer in advance what they cover
Help at home, for as long as you are here.
From a single visit to help for your whole stay. Each care visit lasts at least 1 hour.

In an emergency, call 112. Different arrangements apply for a GP or a hospital; ask the practice or your insurer.

Do you live or work here? Then different rules apply.
Anyone who lives or works in the Netherlands must take out Dutch health insurance. This page is meant for people who are here temporarily and do not (yet) have Dutch insurance.
For people who are uninsured while they should be insured, or who cannot get insured, there are separate schemes for medically necessary care through the CAK: the scheme for the uninsured and the scheme for uninsurable foreign nationals.
Not sure whether you are, or should be, insured? Check with your employer, your municipality or an insurer. We do not give legal advice.
